UX Projects

CUP

A passion project of mine that would promote and elevate independent and speciality coffee shops. In the same vein of Monocle and Wallpaper guides, CUP would target a niche demographic of users who appreciate quality coffee and considered interiors.

I was able to combine my skills in Graphic Design to sketch some coffee shop frontages that felt in keeping with the minimal typography of the application.

SOFTWARE USED: FIGMA + ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR

PRIMARY RESEARCH

Extensive research was conducted to allow me to progress to this stage.

Preliminary research using 67 participants established coffee shop going experiences, a further 35 participants took part in a design prototype study on features, elements and content.

Finally, a recorded study of 5 people using semi-structured interviews were conducted. Two coffee shop owners, one small business owner and two coffee consumers were interviewed for a variety of inputs.

CONSIDERED ICONS

Testing through social media and in person interviews proved that the icons were easily understandable and informative.

NICHE FEATURES

Experimental features that captured the attention of the users would include an "As seen on Instagram" feed and an option to listen to the store's Spotify, so you can hear if the music they were playing wasto your tune.

TESTED INFORMATION

Rigorous testing gave me an idea of the typography and amount of information that was appropriate for a user to have.

AWAY

An accessible travel application, designed for the visually and cognitive impaired. Users are able to book holidays with specific accessibility options. Design considerations using WCAG 2.1 to make this application accessible to these users are:

  • Pause media button
  • Enlarged text
  • Screen zoom option
  • Confirmation
  • Considerate spacing
  • Colour change option
  • Titled pages
  • Titled arrows

SOFTWARE USED: FIGMA

RESEARCH-BASED

Heavy research into cognitive and visual impairments showed a gap in the market for a travel app that was considerate to how their holiday should be tailored for them.

MERCHANT OPTIONS

Allowing multiple payment options is also a consideration for people with impairments. It also widens the demographic of users of the app to people with Paypal credit and younger people who use Klarna.

VISION

An augmented reality application that would work in conjunction with customers riding the Big Bus Tour in major cities like New York City.

The AR animations would be triggered at different intervals of the bus tour using IOT sensors around the city. The goal was to make this conventional visual experience into an immersive and interactive AR experience.

Videos were converted into GIFs for this prototype.

SEAMLESS INTERFACE

The onboarding process had to be seamless, easy and comfortable for the user to complete as we had to take into consideration that they would more than likely be out of the comfort of their accommodation whilst using the app.

AR prototypes were designed in Adobe After Effects, converted into GIFs and then imported into Figma to allow it to work during the presentation phase.

Press play to see all 4 prototypes.

Social media engagement is integrated into the app, you can live stream on Instagram or Facebook. There is also a concierge button if you need any assistance.

Helped HRW undergo a brand refresh with the webinar being the launch. I constructed fluid shapes to use as image templates, alongside a “thread” that went through the entire slide deck to stitch together the narrative of the webinar.

HEALTHCARE RESEARCH WORLDWIDE

As the webinar continued, I adapted the “thread” to fit the contents of each individual page. This helped to create a dynamic display that changed after every slide, but also by creating the illusion that the “thread” was being woven through the images.

SHEPHERDS

With an emphasis on the local community,I designed a city guide with the best the area has to offer.

Using Adobe Photoshop, text and images were dotted throughout a 3-page spread which was uploaded onto one post on Instagram, so users can easily swipe and access the information.

SOFTWARE USED: ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

Designed a series of photos to showcase barber biographies and a small 'get to know them' quiz. This would serve as a virtual ice breaker for potential clients.

Considerate of the look of the grid, aimed to upload multiple forms of media to create an engaging experience.

Web Development

SHEPHERDS

A complete re-design of the Shepherds website for a cleaner and concise experience. The main goal was to sell the USP of the brand - the interior.

Additional focal points were the team and about the brand, with secondary focuses on product and services.

SOFTWARE USED: WORDPRESS

Addressing the commercial needs of the business:

  • The online store was expanded to include the Scandinavian hair care brand Sachajuan, Thomas Clipper colognes and selected lifestyle products.

  • The team members received their own dedicated pages to include more personable content, this allows customers to find common ground with the barber before they even visit the shop.

  • The services were condensed into a dropdown menu for ease of browsing.

  • 'Gift' and 'Shop' categories were combined to create a streamlined and easy commercial experience.

  • Cantonese language added to key features to target the Hong Kong demographic, which is large in Birmingham.

SALES MANAGEMENT

Purchased Shepherds branded wash bags for toiletries in brown and black options, as well as recyclable bamboo toothbrushes.

Creating opportunity and connections for Shepherds. Elevated offering by providing clients with quality and reputable products, in keeping with the brand guidelines.

Bringing Escuyer to Shepherds seemed like a natural fit. The brand identity was selected as one of the best of 2014 at the Design Museum of London, it was this emphasis on branding that made it ideal for our demographic of clientele.

The brand also is ethically conscious. They source their cotton from South America with production at a small family-run factory in Portugal.

The profit margin on socks, which sold out in a few months, was 63%.

I photographed the 2022 Christmas product range to showcase our own brand, as well as respected external products. This was used for the website and for social media. I also curated several Christmas gift boxes, each tailored to different demographics of clientele.
